ハットフィールド・アンド・ザ・ノース、1975年の名作「The Rotters’ Club」収録の大曲、Mumpsの後半です。
本来ならMumps20分30秒を通してやるべきなんでしょうが、なかなかエネルギーが要るので今回は後半のみ。
Part3はPrenut(3:55)、Part4はYour Majesty is Like a Cream Donut(Loud)(1:37)という名前がついてます。ちなみに彼らのAftersというコンピレーションアルバムではこのPart3,4だけが収録されてます。
すべての曲に言えることなのですが、曲をコピーするという事は、手間がかかります。気力との勝負なのです。難曲になると途中でメゲることはよくあるのです。最後まで行きつくかどうかは、ひとえにその曲の持つ(魅力+僕の気力)/難易度によって決まるのです。
さてこの曲、例によってDave Stewartの作品です。
キーボードはピアノとエレピ、そしてスクリーミングオルガン、ギターはPart3はクリーンで、Part4はサックスとユニゾンで力強い音色になります。フルートは2本入っているように聴こえます。
でも、この曲の最大の魅力は女性コーラス隊ノーセッツの素晴らしいコーラスワークでしょう。ただでさえメンドクサイ曲なのに、あんなコーラスよくつけられるわと思います。大変だったでしょうね。
Part3はコーラスの後、もやもやっとした部分になります。フルート1とフルート2、ギターが同じリフを不定期に繰り返し、その合間でエレピ、オルガン、コーラスが自由に演奏するという感じ。
ストリングスらしい音が聴こえて、オルガンでメロディが力強く奏でられます。
エレピが上昇していくつなぎが合って、Part4へ。
サックスとギターがユニゾンをして、また素晴らしいコーラスが入ります。これが終わりまで続きますが、コーラスがずっと入っているのか、実は自信がありません。途中までは息継ぎのような音が聴こえますが、なにやらキーボード鳴らしているようにも聴こえるし。まぁそれくらい見事なハモリなんですけどね。
前半どうしたものでしょうか。そのうち情熱が高まったらやるかもしれません。

I can’t believe you like so many of my favourite bands. I found your site because I dug out my old electric guitar and planned to do my own versions (using GarageBand) of Sylvia and Lounging There Trying, and possibly Maybe I’m Amazed and some others. I worked out the lead line of Lounging There Trying almost forty years ago, but wanted to help my memory, so looked to see if anyone had posted the chords online . When I found your full version I was at once thrilled, and despondent, because mine won’t be half as good.
But I would be interested to know if you have written out scores for any of your Hatfield tracks. I would love to see them! I could offer in exchange to score anything you need but don’t have time to do! Under Dub, for example?
